Anaheim 1 Race Report


Livingston, CA (January 5, 2015) – 51FIFY Energy Drink Yamaha and the #981 of Austin Politelli spent months preparing and testing for Anaheim. Changing brands and riders was a positive step for new Team Manager Craig Monty and everyone involved anticipated solid results for Round 1. Anaheim was a strong night for the team, if not for one unavoidable bike in the Main….

In Heat #1, Austin didn’t get the best jump out of the gate but recovered with a fast, aggressive inside line around the first turn passing several riders. After some bar banging AP981 settled into a comfortable 6th securing a coveted direct transfer to the Main.

Aboard his Scott Stewart-tuned Yamaha YZ250F, Politelli got a great jump and the first Main of the year was finally underway. Austin was up in the lead group dicing back and forth with previous race winners, moving firmly inside the Top 10. In the midst of a fierce battle, Malcolm Stewart went down hard for the second time and Austin was unable to avoid the downed bike laying on the track. With Malcolm’s bike in the middle of the 2 Yamaha’s, Austin struggled to remove Cooper Webb’s YZ that was tangled before finally freeing his bike from the wreckage.

Politelli remounted a lap down and charged hard hoping to collect a few points. He put his head down and rode consistent laps passing a handful of riders to finish in 17th. “Austin’s riding and fitness are clearly up to par,” said Team Manager Craig Monty. “Tonight was just one of the nights; he happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. On paper he got 17th, but we saw the speed he has and know Phoenix will be a different story.”
